Our story
Never limit yourself.
Anything was possible.
When we were children, we believed anything was possible.
Then we grew up. And along the way came the doubts, the “be sensible”, the “that’s not for you” and all those small limits that end up making us question what is possible.
So when we became parents, we wanted to encourage our children to keep dreaming big, to believe in themselves and never to let others define their limits.
Everything stayed inside the frame.
We looked for a way to bring that message to life, through an object that looked like them and could be with them every day.
But we found nothing that really felt right.
There were posters and framed prints, of course, but they all stayed neatly inside their frame. And the original works that really moved us were often far beyond our budget.
So we created what we could not find.
Step out of the frame. Literally.
It all started at home.
A few sketches, some cork boards, magnets, a bit of DIY… and our first two artworks came to life.
On one of them, the character literally stepped out of the frame.
Such a simple detail, and yet it said exactly what we wanted to pass on to our children.
Stepping out of the frame means opening a window onto everything that is possible.
Without really knowing it, we had just laid the foundations of what would become Funky Frames.
Then the adventure began.
At first, these artworks were simply ours.
They hung there, in our home, and visit after visit, our family and friends started noticing them, asking questions, taking an interest.
Their reactions made us want to go a little further. We then dared to take them out of our house.
First exhibitions, first encounters, then a crowdfunding campaign to find out whether this funny little idea could reach people beyond us.
So many of you believed in it.
Thanks to that enthusiasm, our first collection came to life, and other artists, from Switzerland and beyond, began joining the adventure.
And the story goes on with you.
A few artworks to begin with.
A walk-in closet turned into a warehouse.
Three children at the heart of the story.
And plenty of trial and error, encounters and doubts too… but above all the will to keep going.
Funky Frames has grown since then. Our little artworks have left the house to find their place in more than 10,000 homes and in many partner shops.
And when we think back to those first pieces made for our children, what makes us happiest is seeing that the essentials have not changed.
We still want to create works that bring a smile and invite us to dream a little bigger. Because that is the whole spirit of Funky Frames: keeping our inner child and never forgetting that anything is possible…
